Superb B&B in Killala, Co. Mayo

Went to a small town, for a night away, and really enjoyed the experience. spotted Wolf Dog tavern on line, had very good reviews so decided to book. Arrived at the premises and discovered a pub was part of the deal!!! Exceptional Guinness, chatted with the locals, they were great craic. Bedrooms were lovely, neat, tidy and lovely beds. Bathroom and showers were perfect. Very quiet, no street noise. Got up at 11.00am and felt hungry, the owner welcomed me and asked if I wanted an Irish breakfast...I was delighted, the quality of the food was better than the 5 star restaurants, large pot of coffee, and when breakfast was over, I visited the bar to thank Alan who was busy pulling a few pints. I decided to stay and chat with more locals, had a ball! Great place to go, book in time and you will not be disappointed. I will be back for certain. …

Vegan Friendly

Full marks to Louise and Alan in making our holiday so memorable and wonderful. More than full marks to Louise for going way beyond our expectations when asked if she could provide Vegan breakfast for our stay. This she did with gusto and enthusiasm, and would have no hesitation in recommending to vegetarians and vegans. Guinness has recently made their famous beverage vegan and delicious and creamy pints can be enjoyed thoroughly at the Wolf Dog. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Brilliant

Trip advisor only allows me to go back to February 2017. In actual fact, I stayed there with a cousin in December 2016. On arrival, we were met by Louise. She was so welcoming. She asked “what time would you like breakfast?” I replied “ as late as possible so that means 10.30 as on your booking form”. “Not at all” replied Louise. “ it’s quiet time in winter so whenever suits you”. We surfaced at 12.30 and within 15 minutes were presented with a “full Irish” the likes of which you would not get in any expensive hotel. Coffee was available free of charge in the bar (for residents) and it was fresh and excellent. The local people treated us as one of themselves. Chatted, laughed and sang with them. Unique. Did lots of sightseeing and each evening we ate either on of the only two restaurants open in the village in December. I am surprised that Wolf Dog Tavern does not do food all year around as it is much better rated than the other two places which were mediocre. I can’t recommend this place too much. It’s astonishing value and so personal and welcoming. One small quibble: the bedroom curtains were of no use in keeping out light. It would cost buttons to replace with “blackout” curtains. Those who don’t like dark can leave them open but us draculas have to be thought of. I am returning to Wolf Dog Tavern on January 26 for 3 nights with my cousin and our mutual best friend. It’s a reunion. We haven’t all met together since February 2004. We have chosen Wolf Dog Tavern as the two of us who have stayed previously just loved it. Well done to Louise & Alan. …

Lovely little B&B

Was given a warm welcome when arriving late the night before a wedding. Room was spotless and the staff very friendly. As we had an early start the next morning they accommodated a slightly earlier breakfast. The full Irish breakfast set us up for the day. Would definitely recommend.
