A Bit of Culture and a nice pint of Guinness - what more could you wish for
The Viking is a small theatre situated upstairs at the Sheds pub in Clontarf around the corner from Vernon Avenue about half way between the city centre and Howth. Its a small venue with starting times around 0800pm in the evening - booking is advised. Plays are usually short and a number of them play through without an interval, so you will be on your way home before 1000pm, unless you round out your night with another drink in the bar. Its a popular venue with both locals and tourists. At present the price is €15 a head and a pint down stairs costs around €5.20, which you can bring up stairs with you. Be careful as the stairs are as steep as Mount Everest. Seating is mostly on plastic chairs but there are a couple of rows of cinema seats, which seem in demand. We were there last Friday to see "Where the Willow meets the Ash", a three hander authored by Malachy McKenna - a rollicking tale of sport, love, land, ancient wrongs and bigotry, with powerful acting and strong language. It was very good - a great tale, well acted. I would recommend it and the venue for a good night out on the northsde of Dublin.

Hidden Gem
Such a lovely theatre experience. Great atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re involved in the production yourself. Ticket prices can’t be beaten and the addition of having a great pub downstairs is a treat.

Great price, quality theater experience, intimate seating.
I caught an interview with John Connors on a Monday, booked for a Tuesday. Got a ticket for "Ireland Calls". Great performance. My only criticism is that I’m not sure if the bus stop (1731) that is described in the very clear instructions for city center Dublin is the correct one. But it was a great walk, a terrific evening..

A great little venue
Had heard very good things about this little theatre and decided it was time to check it out.
We saw "Back Live" starring Gary Cooke (Apres Match), Andrew Murray and David Fennelly in a witty and edgy tale of three ordinary lives beset by bruising banter and back stories.
You book tickets via text message - listed on their website, which is pretty handy and straight forward.
The theatre was full up on the night we were there (you bring up drinks from the Sheds pub downstairs), and there was a great atmosphere.
The play was brilliant and it’s such an intimate venue you really feel a part of the production.
A great experience and a great way to spend an evening - there’s plenty of food options within walking distance so many opt to grab dinner before going around to the Theatre.
Would highly recommend.

Great little venue
The Sheds is an old fashioned pub - no fancy cocktails or fancy food but pints and spirits served by friendly staff.
The Viking theatre is upstairs and is tiny but a wonderful little venue - a great addition to clontarf and the shows performed there are top class. This theatre really punches above its weight.

Fabulous! Go and experience it!
We stumbled across this tiny theatre on a 3 day trip to Dublin. It’s basically a room above a local pub so is very intimate. We sat in the front row a local and our feet were actually on the stage. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the production in such a setting is going to be second rate, it was AMAZING. Such talent, perfect lighting and a stupendous cast of professional actors. No wonder the place was packed out.
We had a rip roaring evening watching Molière’s "Misanthrope". During the interval you can pop down to the pub and get a drink to bring back up. Wish we had a theatre like this near us. Brilliant experience. Thanks to all involved in the production, it was the highlight of our visit. Cheers, Karen & Nick.
