Perfect place for a day out. Very nice and friendly owners, lots of dogs, but they are safe. Beautiful garden and area.
This is a beautiful garden that has many hidden delights just waiting to be explored. It has a gorgeous walled garden and is especially lovely in spring with with daffodils and crocus
Castle Walled Garden Dogs & Horses Beautiful!
I was recommended this venue by #MunsterVales. My parents and I stayed not far away, it was absolutely beautiful. The walled garden was stuffed with espaliered pears and apple trees along with really well cultivated companion gardened veggie plot a beautiful old glasshouse along with a proper gardener who stopped to chat with the obligatory lean on the shovel. Really dog friendly and welcoming we were chaperoned by a gorgeous red setter who joined us on our rambles. We were exhausted from a long day out so didn’t go around the house will save for another day - a true gem of a country estate delighted it’s survived and we are lucky enough to get to share in the beauty of its setting.
A must See
A short distance outside Cappoquin you will find Tourin house and gardens. One can get a short guided tour of the house or simply stroll around the lovely gardens;there is also a wide loop trail one can follow where you will see an excellent example of a middle age Tower House. Combine your visitation here with the nearby Cappoquin House and gardens.
Beautiful house and gardens and a welcoming host
We arrived on a sunny day in May, and were greeted in front of the house by one of the owners, a welcoming lady who directed us to the foyer of the house, where we paid the entrance fee. We chose to tour the gardens, which cost €5 (for adults, €3.50 for senior citizens) A tour of the house is also available, but I’m not sure if that costs extra.
Outside the house, you’re free to walk around at your leisure, following a path that leads past a varied collection of flowering plants and trees. The path leads you to a walled garden with Apple trees, and then back out and past holiday accommodation all the way to the bank of the river Blackwater. While we were there, a group was taking advantage of the guided kayaking on the broad river.
On our return, I spent some time with a very friendly horse that very gently searched me for treats. The animal meet and greet didn’t end there, as a playful Red Setter kept me company while I took photographs of the house and adjoining Rapeseed field.
As we were at the car preparing to leave, we met the lady of the house again, and she invited us in for tea and biscuits. A very civilised end to a very enjoyable day. If you’re a photographer, there’s lots to keep you busy, and there’s plenty of room to use a tripod without getting in the way of other visitors.
Gardens just gorgeous this time of the year . There are walled gardens and castles and well mainateined out houses.
Full of beautiful trees and shrubs, in a beautiful setting, well worth a visit for anyone who likes gardens!
Delightful Tour of House and Gardens!
My wife and I visited in June. They so graciously opened up their home on a Monday for a tour even though this is not a normal business day for them. We received a wonderful tour of the house and then the property and gardens. Afterwards, we were told we were welcome to wander about on the property to explore at our convenience. The home and the gardens were just beautiful---thank you so much!!!
