Description

The Museum of Orange Heritage at Sloan’s House, Loughgall is situated on Main Street, Loughgall. Loughgall, and in particular Sloan’s House, are key areas in the history of the Orange Order as it was here that the Institution was formed around the aftermath of the Battle of the Diamond in 1795. The Museum also displays an important collection of documents relating to the beginning of the Orange Order, including some of the first warrants signed. This site also tells the story of the Plantation and the surrounding area of Loughgall, including stories of local families to the area even before the formation of the Orange Order. This site also includes Sloan’s Parlour, portraying the way it would have looked when the Orange Order was first formed there. The Parlour tells the story through graphics, audio visual technologies and the display of key artefacts. This site also includes a permanent exhibition space, Sloan's Coffee Shop and research facilities.

Tremendous

Was passing through the area and made an impulsive stop. First impressions where the building was fresh and modern. We received a warm welcome in reception and the guide Leslie was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and engaging he really brought the history to life. The museum is well laid out and there has been a great amount of care taken to ensure it’s informative and accurate; but not overwhelming with the nitty gritty.
There is a beautiful garden of remembrance that is quiet and has an ambience of reflection.
Finally we stopped in the coffee shop, the staff where attentive and there was an ethos of genuine welcome to guests. All surfaces clean and tidy no dirty tables or crumbs. Amazing and tasty tray bakes and cakes along with tea and coffee and I’d recommend you try the local apple juice!
All in all beautiful village, friendly people and a wonderful part of Irish history nestled in the beautiful Armagh countryside.
A hidden gem!

Museum of orange heritage

One of the best places to visit for information on the orange order, it’s formation and history A well organised and informative outing with local guides who are very well versed on the subjects the museum covers.

Absolutely excellent.

As a member of the Order I thought it important too make a visit. Me and my mother too a trip down, before going into the musame we went into the coffee shop were we had excellent coffee and buns.

We made our way into the musame and were well greated by the guy on the counter who kindly gave us a guide booklet of what was on display and offered us a personal tour. We spent around an hour (but could of spent longer) going around it. After we finished the tour I picked up some very well priced souvenirs and took a tour of the garden which was a humbling experience.

If you don’t know a lot about the foundations of the Order, and wish to find out more then Soloans house would be really benifical too you.

Very moving visit.

Visited the museum with a group, we were met by our guide who we believe was a volunteer but you would never have guessed, his knowledge of the museum and its exhibits was beyond expectations . We enjoyed our tour and gained a wonderful insight into the history and culture of The Orange Order , without doubt the most moving part of the trip was The Memorial Garden with its apple tree planted by HRH. The Prince of Wales. Having previously visited the Museum at Schomberg House we found Sloans House extremely interesting and complimented greatly our Schomberg House experience.

If your into it, good.

If you are into history of the orange then this is a very informative tour, however if your not its boring.

costs around 3 pounds per person.
YOU NEED TO WALK AROUND THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING TO GET TO THE ENTRANCE

there was a lot to see and read however I found much of the information to be repeated.

My elderly uncle loved it. I couldn’t wait to get out
