Colourful.

I was here again in the spring of 2020. Entrance to the art galleries downstairs is free. New collections go on show each month, so its always worth a visit. Artworks by Jenny Wilson were in the Conservatory Gallery. Very bold colours, very bright, high-contrast work. Landscapes with sweeps of burning red and orange, purple headlands, or slabs of green light from a window. Happily the curator is on hand who knows the artists and can fill in the background on the painter and their pictures.

Free gallery

It’s free to go in and have a nosey. I don’t know much about art, they have different rooms full of pictures from some painters. Modern stuff and local things, very good actually, worth a look.

Revisiting old haunts

I first visited this lovely and unusual gallery for a friend’s art exhibition and returned a week later with family. Both times Cynthia the owner could not have been more welcoming. Her gallery which is also her home is an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful art in the setting of a gorgeous Victorian home. Would highly recommend a visit

What a Gem!

Enjoyed another visit to The Gallery Whitehead. It does do one very brilliant thing. Cynthia gives new artists a chance to put on their first-ever solo exhibition. In the life of an artist that’s a BIG deal. Scott McClintock’s show was so much fun, and EVERYTHING sold from Peter Carton’s first-ever exhibition. For this October its the turn of Karen Telford Shaw to shine, and she’s put together a great collection of pictures. One quarter of her profits will be going to Hope House Ireland, a charity operation on Whitehead’s sea front. Very good. The pictures include so many magnificent skies, characterful animal portraits, and lots more. Free entry, open daily noon to 5pm & Sunday 1pm to 5pm.
