Gorgeous!

Lovely lake to swim in, well maintained ladders/walkway. Bins available, portaloo in the carpark and both days we went had coffee van/ice cream for sale. Water is really clear. Carpark gets full quickly on sunny days and there’s limited space on the green area (which is sloped) but such a gorgeous spot!

Worth a stop on the N4

Pull off the N4 heading to Dublin or Sligo & soak up the beautiful view from the car park or walk down to the waterfront & have a swim (if your willing to brave the cold!). Great for watching the sunsets.

Lovely

One of the 3 lakes found just outside of Mullingar (Lough Owel, Lough Ennell and Lough Derravaragh). You can go swimming here at the diving boards where there is a pull in area and a Children of Lir monument/statue. It’s a nice spot. There’s only a small area here so not good for walking around but go to Lough Ennell for that. The water is nice and they do the annual christmas day swim here. There are nice views of the lake driving out of Mullingar towards Longford.

Amazing lake

Since I was a child Lough Owel was always the pull in spot on the road from Dublin heading to the West. It’s an fantastic local amenity for swimmers or fishermen. A lovely walk down to the shores is a grest way to stretch the legs after a drive. Very scenic.

Always stop off here!

I found this place one day heading West, and have been stopping off here ever since. Have yet to do anything other than avail of the coffeeman when he’s there with his truck, but the lake itself is stunning and the water is SO clear & clean.

Relaxing time

I love going for picnics and walks along the shore and one of these days I will hire a boat. The diving board is great for a swim.

A lot to do

Lough Owel offers many different activities for all. The views from the Sligo road at the carpark are lovely and if you fancy a dip or dive at the diving boards the water is clear and deep. The lake provides for great fishing with great stocks of brown trout and other fish. There is also a pitch and putt course close to the south shore and there are nice walks around the lake at the carpark there.
