Good Spot!

While touring around on our staycation decided to pull into Wexford for the night with no booking made. Quick search online we decided to call in to Jim McGee’s to see what it was like. We were sorted with a double room straight away by a very friendly host in the bar. The room was no frills but was just what we needed after a long and weary day exploring. A great price (cheaper to book direct with them) and the room was spotlessly clean and had absolutely everything you could need. Room only, they don’t do food but it’s very near the main hub.

Great spot but questionable ’lady’ at the bar

The best Jim McGee’s I’ve ever stayed in, rooms are spotless, bar is amazing and food top quality however I ended up spending the night with a lady I met at the bar and something just didn’t feel right.

Stop in for a drink; meet the locals!

Two of our group headed up to this pub after a dinner elsewhere. We sat at the bar and had a beer each - and enjoyed our most "local color" experiences of our 2-week Ireland trip.
The bar owner greeted us from behind the bar, and came over to speak with us a half dozen times over maybe 30 minutes. He introduced us to several locals at the bar, who obviously were nightly patrons. We engaged them and him in conversations, and found that their English was so "Irish" that frequently only one of us would catch what had just been said.
The local nearest to us was up at the Karaoke microphone singing "Ring of Fire" as we left - but everyone was talking so much that virtually no one was really listening.
Definitely stop in here for a taste of real small town Ireland!

Excellent place

We really couldn’t recommend this place enough, value for money was excellent and the staff were very friendly, when I go back to Wexford this will be my first choice. The bar was lovely and cosy with so much character. Rooms were very clean and cosy. Only drawback was no breakfast but they recommended the red kettle cafe which was lovely.

Very pleasant indeed!!!!

Lovely quaint pub not far from town centre.
Staff very welcoming upon arrival.
Booked 2 rooms and were side by side as requested.
Rooms themselves were well appointed and very clean. Shower was awesome.
The pub downstairs is full of old charm.
Would I stay again????
Definitely

Friends 50 th b day

24 of booked into here for a 3 night stay . Rooms lovely and the owner Jim was most friendly and helpful always . That is the only reason he has a successful business . The lady who takes the bookings and checks you in was the most miserable and rude lady who should not be front of house customer facing . We have run hotels for 25 yrs and have to say was disgusted at her behaviour . We may have been a little noisy at times but that was to be expected . She made everyone of us feel uncomfortable . We went to her to tell her to cancel 4 of us from a booking she had made for a restaurant . We were told bluntly that we could not cancel . Big mistake ! Nobody tells us we can not do something . After that we were blanked for two days by her . We then asked her if we could use blue tack to put pictures up we were greeted with a blunt no . But once again the wonderful Jim came to the rescue . Do not let this review put you off staying there as it’s a wonderful place just a militant lady who is in the wrong job !!!!

Nice traditonal Irish bar; avoid the back room.

Visited this quaint, reassuringly old-fashioned bar, which mainly caters for local people, on a recent weekend stay in lovely Wexford town. Immediately felt welcome and at home in the front bar area which is well-maintained in an "oldy-worldy" fashion and probably hasn’t changed much in decades. The pints of stout were very reasonably priced and served cold and delicious; the service was prompt and friendly and the clientele were chatty and welcoming.

The only negative experience was when we decided to venture into the pool room which is located behind a snug at the rear of McGees. Disappointed to report that the welcoming atmosphere in this area was pretty thin on the ground. We waited our turn for a game on the table and when we got started it soon became clear that the resident pool sharks did not appreciate our presence and were not shy about letting us know this. I needn’t go into detail here, but, needless to say, we did not stay long, finished up our drinks and left.

While we gained a very favourable impression of McGees overall, the experience in the back-room area was unfortunate and left a bad taste in the mouth. I would return for the authentic Irish bar experience, but I wouldn’t be going anywhere near the pool-room at the back.
