Fortwilliam Country House

Stay here! Legendary. Terrific place to stay. The accommodation is lovely - large rooms, great views and awesome thick duvet bedding (which was sensationally comfortable). The above is all worth talking about but it doesn’t come close to the greatness of the hosts - Mavis and Terry - who are spectacular in every sense. Great fun, great stories, great cook breakfasts, great bread (the bread was ridiculously good), great ginger cake etccc... you get the picture. I could go on.

This is an absolute gem in the Northern Ireland countryside. Terry & Mavis were excellent hosts providing customer service that is very rarely seen nowadays. Nothing was to much trouble and the laidback homely atmosphere over breakfast was just perfect. Terry even took us to pick our car up from the wedding reception we had attended the previous day. We would not hesitate to stay here if we are in the area in the future.

My wife and I stayed at Fortwilliam Country House for 4 nights in mid-January, while we were visiting friends and participating in local event. It was our second sojourn with Mavis & Terry: they simply could not be better hosts. I am still in "withdrawal" from Mavis' superb Ulster Breakfasts: awesome! Fortwilliam Country House is very well located, just outside Hillsborough, in the country on 70 lovely acres. Location was important as we had events in Hillsborough, Belfast and Tandragee. we plan on staying again, soon, so we highly recommend Fortwilliam Country House

We needed a place to stay in Hillsborough and went to info center. They rang Fortwilliam and got us a room. Best luck ever to have a room here! Mavis and Terry were the perfect hosts. Made us feel like part of the family. Gave us rec for dinner at The Pheasant and it was wonderful. Upon our return they had a selection of sweets and coffee and tea for us and some other guests. We all sat in the kitchen and had delightful conversation. The house is impeccably decorated but not fussy-very comfortable. Next mornings breakfast was absolutely delicious. Again, great food and great conversation! Mavis is a master on the Aga! Again, this place is fantastic! We feel like we have two new Irish friends!! Truly the gift of hospitality is evident

My friend and I had a fab two night stay here. Mavis and Terry were very welcoming and kind. They also gave us a lift to a nearby wedding and organised our taxi for that night. Mavis even filled my friends hot water bottle for her and left it in her bed for after the wedding! The room was perfect and very clean. Anything we asked for was not a problem. Would highly recommend this b&b!
