Just excellent

An evening meal for 4 of us working in Dublin for the week. We'd read that the 'gate didn't serve alcohol so dutifully rocked up with a couple of bottles of wine. No fuss was made but I felt a bit embarrassed until the owner offered to open them anyway. Even better, no corkage was charged! Food was superb. I love middle eastern cuisine and this is some of the best (if not THE best) I've had. Go with Ghandi's (the owner) recommendation and you won't be far wrong. We had the Beirut and Aram mezze to start, followed by Shish taouq, Kabseh, Makloubeh and Syadeih. I was the only one able to finish the main although we all agreed it was some of the best food we'd had in ages. Having been rude enough to bring our own wine initially, i thought it only polite to have a look at the list and I'm glad I did: They have one of my favourite wines anywhere: Massaya. No, it's not cheap but trust me, the restaurant are not making a huge profit on a bottle and you really won't regret it. So: Fabulous food, fabulous wine and Ghandi is a great host. It makes me wish I was in Dublin more often.

Brunch

Myself and a friend happened upon this restaurant by chance for brunch. We were first there and sat outside. The server/owner was incredibly helpful - especially as I am vegetarian and my friend has a wheat intolerance. We ordered a range of dishes all of which were superb. The baba Ganouch was the best I have ever had - really fresh tasting and not at all gloopy as it sometimes can be. The hummus too reminded me of Ottolenghi's recipe - very smooth and subtly flavoured. The felafells were also really fresh tasting and not at all dry like they can be. Finally the spinach in filo was a highlight - again really fresh and subtly flavoured. All washed down with copious amounts of excellent coffee - will go again asap.

Excellent flavors and amazing service

Just went there for a quick lunch and was really, really happy with my lentil soup and chicken musahab combo. Both were full of so many flavors and especially the chicken musahab was excellent. I think I was served by the owner, what a cool and friendly guy with smiling eyes. Recommended.

Excellent service in an excellent location

I was in Damascus gate several times for coffee in summer 2021. I never had a meal, so I can't really judge the food. But the cappuccino is delicious and the service is always at the top. They also have some covered and heated outside space, from where it is possible to eat or sip a drink enjoying the buzzing life of Camden.

Don’t miss this gorgeous restaurant. Beautiful food.

I spotted this restaurant near our hotel and liked the look of the food people were eating outside. Luckily they had a table inside for us and the owner (I think) talked us through the menu. There was a lot of chicken, fish and lamb. Two of us had Chicken Musahab which is a chargrilled chicken fillet. It was served with vermicelli rice, salad and hummus. Others had the Farouk Mashwi which was a half chicken chargrilled, and some chicken kebabs. These were served with the same accompaniments. We also received Syrian potatoes on the house. These were gorgeous. The taste is just amazing. The spices used for the chicken and the flavours they create blew me away. I asked about the spices used and the owner told us all about them and then also brought me a sample of them to take home. I couldn’t believe how kind he was. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely experience. This included joking with our teenage kids. I get the feeling that this is a place that has regular customers. I wish I lived closer so I could be one of them!
