An Excellent Small Local Bookshop, worthy of Support

If you are in the least interested in Books, and particularly if you appreciate the importance of retaining small, dedicated Bookshops (in face of the highly aggressive, impersonal Amazon & its ilk) you will really enjoy coming here, browsing, and - hopefully - making a purchase.

This is one of our regular stopping-off points when we visit Clifden, as we’ve been doing for 50+ years, and did so again in late September, 2020. It’s fair to say that, in such a small space, they offer a great selection, majoring on Irish literature and History, on West of Ireland lore + to-day’s opportunities to explore the local environment, as well as stocking the latest most popular Fiction & Non-Fiction Books.

For our part, reflecting all of the above, we bought (yet another!) Walking Guide, a Book of Seamus Heaney’s "Best Poems", and a very recent publication covering the all too many sad events at the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

And, we should add, the young lady who dealt with our purchases on this occasion, was noticeably more pleasant than had been the case on a number of previous visits here.

A wonderful treasure trove on main St Clifden Connemara
Very knowledgable owners with lots of items covering local interests
Up to date titles in fiction and non fiction , a very good children’s section and I have to mention the Sports Section

Nice little shop for the book lover

Stopped by looking for a book about Grace O’Malley the pirate queen of the Connemara. Asked the young lady and she took me over and right there was Grace O’Malley by Anne Chambers. Small place but exactly what you would expect in this cute Irish town.

Fantastic for a browse

Great little book shop in centre of Clifden, has a great range of books and stationary.can get quite crowed. If they don’t have what you want, they will order and have in a few days.

Gotta love this!

Ah, so much fun browsing this bookshop!
My daughter only went in to get some postcards but both of us ended up buying books, as the selection of books is not the standardized pile of books you find elsewhere, but selected carefully.
I got hold of an author- signed copy of The Burning Chambers, can’t wait to get started.
Friendly owner, who really seems to enjoy her job.

Not just books

Choice offerings and not at all cluttered for a small shop. Very knowledgeable owner. Better prices than Amazon for the titles we were buying.

Brilliant independent bookshop

I love this book shop, it’s a little slice of book heaven. My husband is mad for the local historian books as for me I love the range of cook books. You will definitely find something worth taking home in here, as I never leave empty handed.

Good bookshop

Good bookshop, neat. Cosy but nothing too special. The shopseller was very kind and helped us in looking for books
