We flew into and out of Shannon airport on our vacation. Every aspect of this airport is efficient and organized. The signage is great, and the flow of people is thought out. Airport staff were helpful and informative. They presented in a welcoming and hospitable manner. Very clean and neat airport!! The rental car (Hertz, in our case) places provided complete information and walked us through the best options and prices. They were friendly and not overbearing or rushed in their explanations. There are kiosks and staffed areas for currency exchanges in the airport. Visitors from outside the European Union can purchase goods in Ireland to take home and can get a refund of VAT (value added tax) which is a retail tax payable on goods purchased in Ireland.This can mean a reduction of up to 17% on the normal purchase price. There are two VAT refunding agencies in the departures lounge at Shannon Airport - the staff at these areas were very helpful and guided us through the process - it was painless and quick. Shannon Airport is also the first airport in the world, outside of the Americas, to offer Full US Preclearance facilities to passengers travelling to the USA. US bound passengers complete all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections at Shannon prior to departure, making arrival in the US easier and faster. The customs process is no-nonsense but easy to navigate. It was a huge plus! The duty free shopping available at this airport is significant and the airport lounge area offers lots of options for snacks and shopping as well. This airport was amazing!

The TSA needs to visit here. Nice people doing a SERVICE for the people paying the bills. The security was efficient and friendly, the airport was very nice and it is the birthplace of Duty Free!

Shannon Airport is very attractive and convenient very short lines courteous staff and nice shops. Easy to get to Limerick by public bus. The Park Inn is just a short walk from the airport and very nice. From Limerick it is easy to get all other major cities in Ireland. There are car rentals at the airport as well.On future trips to Ireland I plan to use this airport.

They’ve spruced up the restaurant in the waiting area, it’s now so much better, making Shannon a place where you can look forward to waiting for your flight. As rare a thing as gold hens’ teeth.

Volumes are relatively small, so security is pretty quick, even if it’s the old-style method of queing.

Blissfully too, for someone who can’t see the sense of shopping as a pastime, the shop is one spacious, business-like store, with everything you might need - woollens, whiskey, chocolate, giftware - and nothing you don’t. Yippee.

There is a large waiting area, a new carvery-cum-bar which has lovely food, superb friendly and efficient staff, a couple of TV’s and such a laid back atmosphere, you’d think you were in the middle of Co. Clare.

Oh wait a minute, that’s exactly where you are.

Oh and if you need to leave the car for a bit, long-term parking is dirt cheap and a five minute walk from the terminal. Look it up.

Downside? Only one. The awful new flimsy modern loos that replace the classic retro sixties terrazo n tiled, built-like-a-bomb-shelter old ones. They won’t last. ’orrible.
